Is Threshyr Edu really free?
Yes — free forever, for everyone. There is no trial, no subscription, and no in-app purchases. Nothing in the app is locked behind a payment.
Where is my data stored?
In a single database file named threshyr.db, kept in Threshyr Edu's own data folder on your machine. It is never uploaded — the app has no server to upload it to. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address, and no password. That also means there is nothing to recover or reset if you change computers.
Does it work offline?
Yes, entirely. Threshyr Edu never needs a network connection — every feature works with Wi-Fi switched off.
How do I add time I forgot to track?
Open Timesheet and click + Add Manual Time. Pick the task, set the start and end times, and save. Any row in that table can also be edited or deleted with the Edit and Delete actions.
How do I create a course?
Open Courses and click + Create Course. Give it a title, an instructor name, and start and end dates. You can create as many courses as you like.
Can I move my data to another Mac?
Yes — copy one file. Everything you have tracked lives in threshyr.db at this path:
~/Library/Containers/com.affanbajwa.threshyr.edu/Data/Library/Application Support/Threshyr-Edu/
- Quit Threshyr Edu on both Macs. Quitting finishes writing the database, so the copy you take is complete.
- In Finder on the old Mac, press ⌘ ⇧ G, paste the path above, and press Return.
- Copy threshyr.db to a USB drive or cloud folder.
- On the new Mac, install Threshyr Edu, open it once, then quit it — that creates the folder.
- Go to the same path on the new Mac and paste threshyr.db in, replacing the file already there.
- Open Threshyr Edu. Your courses, tasks and time are back.
Does Threshyr Edu track my screen or my apps automatically?
No. Threshyr Edu is a manual tracker: you start the timer on a task card, or enter the time by hand. It never watches your screen, your apps, or your browser, and it asks for no system permissions. Threshyr Studio is the edition that tracks automatically.
Troubleshooting
The app won't open after install
- Quit it completely — right-click its Dock or taskbar icon and choose Quit — then open it again.
- Restart your computer and try once more.
- If it still will not open, reinstall it from the same store you installed it from. On macOS, copy your threshyr.db file out first (path above) — deleting the app also deletes its data folder.
- Still stuck? Email us with your operating system version and what you see on screen.
The timer didn't save a session
- A time slot opens the moment you press play and closes when you press pause. If the app closed while a timer was still running, that slot is still open — it comes back running when you reopen the app. Press pause on that card to close it.
- Then correct the length in Timesheet with Edit, or delete the slot and re-enter it with + Add Manual Time.
